Hello my issue is as follows: ->Win 7 Pro ->Boots up shows 'press ctrl+alt+del' screen ->Once this is pressed, the prompt for the password does not show (mouse moves not frozen) ->Unable to recover from rescue cd After toiling with this issue for some time I found that when the computer is shut down properly, the next login does not show the password prompt. If the computer is shut down via a 5 second power-button press, the password prompt appears the next time the computer is turned on after the 'start widows normally' dos screen. I had an older image of the os on a harddrive (replaced HD with solid state) that I used to 'restore' from. The issue happened again some 6 days later. I can not keep restoring/backing up all the time as it is very time consuming (there is a lot of changing data on this computer and having to back up like this all the time is not a realistic solution). What can be causing this issue?
I would like to solve this issue without having to re-image and restore updated data. Any help or guidance is greatly appreciated. Into 'Run' in Start Menu, type: control userpasswords2 If you've not activated Run, you can click on Windows System32 Netplwiz.exe In Advanced Tab, you can disable Ctrl-Alt-Dlt In User Tab, you can disable User Name & Password Could also check into Screen Saver, Advanced Power Settings. I've had something similar where mouse/keyboard does not track. Can be fixed sometimes by pulling, replugging USB's.

Hello, try restoring your system state using a restore point that dates before the appearance of your problem. Try restore at boot: This posting is provided 'AS IS' with no warranties or guarantees, and confers no rights. Hello Mr X I have already restored the computer, however the same issue happened again.
I was hoping to get some specific information regarding what is causing the error. I tried the restore point previously and that did not work. I had to re-apply an image from a few weeks ago, which was actually back up all new data of slow hard drive, apply image, put all new data back from slow drive. I do not want to do this again.
I would like to know what service/registry entry/whatever system parameter is involved in the time between pressing ctl+alt+del and the password promt so i can solve the issue and not have to deal with it again in 6 days. Do not shut down the computer by holding down the power button for 5 seconds unless you are completely hung and have no other recourse. This causes an immediate power down and bypasses the windows shutdown procedures. If you have to do this, you should run chkdsk /f from an elevated prompt at the next boot.

The computer has been part of a domain, but the last few times the user logged in is on the local machine not the domain. What exactly happens is as follows: -> power button is pressed, normal boot-up ->Asks for ctrl+alt+del -> this is then pressed: screen is now blue background with wispy graphics, shows accessibility options box. Mouse can move but not right click. Accessibility box shows but can not be selected. ->Normally you would expect the login box with machinename user and a text area for a password.
