Hello All, I have been running Mac Office 2011 on a Mac under Hi Sierra OS. Because of a software problem with the Mac I needed to reinstall the Office suite from my distribution disks (and product key) - which I still have! However, when trying to access my pre-reinstall identities, I get an error message saying that the identity cannot be used with this version of Outlook. I believe there were at least a few service packs released that modified Outlook 2011, and they are likely the reason my identities won't work with my version of Outlook without the service packs. I have tried to download the Office updates but get the error message 'Autoupdate cannot connect to the update server'. Researching this issue I came upon a notice that support for this version of Office was suspended in October 2017. Is this a poorly described error message that is coming up because the product is out of support?

You should be updated to 14.7.7. This is the last updater Office 2011 will ever receive. In October it will officially be End of Life software. While the apps will continue to work in Sierra, starting in High Sierra 32-bit apps will be depreciated. Office 2011is 32-bit. By default when you open Outlook it creates an Identity called Main Identity.

Most likely this is the name of your Identity. Note: rebuilding Outlook has issues. Make sure you have a backup copy first. Once you try to rebuild and it fails, it can leave you with an Identity that will never rebuild.

Outlook needs a lot of free space to rebuild. When rebuilding it duplicates the Identity. Check the size by doing a Get Info on the Identity. Check the amount of free space on your drive in Disk Utility. Not only do you need additional space the size of the Identity, the system also needs room to work.
